Earlier this year, HMD Global started the trend of launching its ‘X’ series smartphones with a “Plus” suffix in the global market. This is observed in the global debut of the Nokia X6 as the Nokia 6.1 Plus. The same thing can be seen with the Nokia X5 and the Nokia 5.1 Plus. This trend has made a lot of fans expect that the Nokia X7 would also be launched as the Nokia 7.1 Plus. However, HMD Global reportedly has plans to launch the X7 globally as the Nokia 8.1 instead. This new model has already been spotted with Android 9.0 Pie in a Geekbench listing.
A Russian tipster with the Twitter handle ‘Nokia anew’ revealed unannounced information about the global launch of the Nokia X7. He noted that HMD Global intended to launch it globally as the Nokia 7.1 Plus before the company’s Chief Product Officer Juho Sarvikas changed his mind, deciding to bring the Nokia X7 to the global market as the Nokia 8.1 instead. This global launch is expected to come up sometime in 2019.
Ahead of this expected launch of the Nokia 8.1, the device has been seen on the Geekbench website. The listing shows the device to come with Android 9.0 Pie. It also shows 4GB of RAM and the Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 SoC. These details somewhat match the official specifications of the Nokia X7 that was launched in China last week. On the hardware side of things, details such as the display panel and battery have not yet been revealed.
The device received a single-core score of 1,841 and a multi-score of 5,807 on Geekbench. The upload date of the listing was October 19 but the phone is not expected to launch until MWC 2019, set to take place in February.
