We have been waiting for the name of the upcoming Redmi flagship for a while now, but that seems to be even more elusive than the specs that the device will carry. Well, that could be due to the fact the company itself was yet to settle on a name for the device.
As of yesterday, the General Manager of the board went on Weibo with some suggestions, enjoining the public to help them name their coming device.
As of the time of this writing, all that has changed and we have a name – Redmi K20.
According to the company, this will mark the ushering of a ‘K series’ which would be dedicated to high performance devices. Likewise, we believe they have taken their claim that this would come with ‘killer’ specs too far by taking the first letter of that word.
Whatever the motivation behind the naming system, though, we are sure the ‘20’ behind it doesn’t hold any significance whatsoever.
It seems that the company has taken to their comments of envying the kind of marketing Huawei does – which is not surprising since the latter brand is now the biggest in China. Likewise, almost everyone knows how the Asian brand has enjoyed the use of the number 20, so Redmi might just want to cash in on that too.
Besides the name, we expect this K20 to launch with a 6.39-inch FHD screen carrying a fingerprint reader (embedded in the screen). Under the hood, a Snapdragon 855 processor keeps the operators running as smoothly as can be.
The selfie camera is amazing at 20MP but that is nowhere near what the back offers with a triple arrangement of 48MP (main camera), 8MP (wide-angle lens) and 16MP (telephoto) sensors.
Now that we have a name to it, we believe we should start hearing more about this unit in the days to come.
