Android 7.1.1 Nougat Released for Tecno Phantom 6 Plus, Here’s How to Upgrade

Android Nougat Update for Tecno Phantom 6 Plus

Tecno Phantom 6 and Phantom 6 Plus are the top Tecno phones last year, and with a phone of that magnitude, you would expect regular firmware update.

About 2 months ago, Tecno announced that they will start rolling out Nougat update for the Tecno Phantom 6 and the Phantom 6 Plus in August. They have kept those words for Tecno Phantom 6 Plus but nothing has been said about Nougat update for the Phantom 6 yet.

Tecno Mobile has started rolling out Android 7.1.1 Nougat for Tecno Phantom 6 Plus and some users have already received the update over-the-air.

Android Nougat Update for Tecno Phantom 6 Plus

Upgrading you Tecno Phantom 6 Plus to Android 7.1.1 Nougat is fairly simple with these two methods; Over-the-Air (OTA) or by Tcard method.

To upgrade via OTA, all you need to do is to simply wait till your device receives the update notification.

Or you can try forcing the device to check for the the update by going to Settings>>About phone>>System update. This will trigger the phone to check for the OTA update.

Once your phone receives the update notification, click the “download” button to begin the download. Once the download is complete, click the “Install update” button and allow the phone to do the rest.

If for some reasons your Phantom 6 Plus wasn’t able to get the OTA update, you can still upgrade via TCard (memory card) and the procedure is fairly simple as well.

First, you need to download the Tcard version of the Android Nougat for Tecno Phantom 6 Plus to a memory card on the device.. You can download the update here.

Make sure the files are saved directly to the SD card and not in some folder on the card.

After downloading the update, go to Settings>>About phone>>System update>>Update from local, select the storage that holds the downloaded update and then select the file.

The on-screen instruction will guide you on how to complete the rest of the update.

You can also check this here out for a visual instruction on how to upgrade via TCard. Although the post was written for Infinix devices but the procedure is the same for all phones.

Some precautions to take when upgrading

  • The file is about 1.9 GB in size so make sure you have enough cellular data or you are connected to Wi-Fi before downloading.
  • If you have rooted your phone, note that the update might crash your device. You have to take extra caution before upgrading.
  • Create a backup of your files before upgrading.
  • Make sure you have at least 50% of battery remaining or your device is plugged to a power source before starting the upgrade as interruption may destroy your device.

The upgrade is expected to take about 10 – 15 minutes to complete. That is after downloading the 1.9 GB file of course.

Enjoy your nougat!
