We are probably going to wait until 2020 before Apple introduces its first 5G-compatible smartphone. Android manufacturers, on the other hand, will have 5G smartphones for sale in time for the 2019 holiday shopping season. Some Android manufacturers will even have 5G devices available sooner than that.
This was revealed by Qualcomm President Cristiano Amon during an interview with CNET. He said, “When we get to exactly this time of year one year from now, we will see every [handset maker] on the Android ecosystem, their flagship across all US carriers will be a 5G device.”
The whole thing isn’t much of a surprise. Earlier in August, Sprint announced a partnership with LG to introduce a 5G smartphone during the first half of 2019. Just last week, Verizon also announced a new partnership with Samsung. This partnership will involve the two tech giants introducing a 5G smartphone during the first half of 2019.
With the incredible speeds that 5G will be offering, Android users will likely upgrade in huge numbers. This means that 2019 will likely be a huge year for the manufacturers who will want to meet the new demands of their users.
While all this excitement is going on in the Android world, rumor has it that Apple will likely not release its first 5G smartphone until 2020. Of course, Apple has been known to be quite patient with new technologies. This company didn’t even come up with an LTE device until the iPhone 5 in 2012. So, the rumors are probably true about the release of the company’s first 5G device not coming up until 2020 at the earliest.
So, while Apple waits, Android users will begin to enjoy the power of 5G by 2019. Are you as excited as we are? Let us know in the Comments section.
