Have you ever tried to search for a betting app in the Google Play Store?
Well, if you have, you would have noticed that betting apps do not exist on that platform.
That is because the Google Play Store does not support betting apps in Nigeria.
The guys at Google are very strict with their policy on betting apps. Up until March 2021, the Play Store allowed betting apps in just four countries- Brazil, France, Ireland and the United Kingdom- but that scope has since been expanded to cover 15 more nations.
Now, residents in Australia, Belgium, Canada, Colombia, Denmark, Finland, Germany, Japan, Mexico, New Zealand, Norway, Romania, Spain, Sweden, and the United States are able to download gambling apps from the Google Play Store.
Unfortunately, that list still does not include players from Nigeria.
Does this mean android users in Nigeria cannot get betting apps on their phones? No. Of course not. The Android population in Nigeria is too large for betting companies not to find a way!
Android is by far the largest mobile operating system in Nigeria, commanding an estimated 85.3% of the market share in the country. That is hardly a surprise, given the large number of middle-to-low end Android phones available to choose from.
While our iOS friends can easily search for and download betting apps from the Appstore, we have to take a more scenic route to get betting apps on our phones.
The way out is to download betting apps directly from the betting sites.
So how does this work?
When you visit a betting site on your mobile device, the app download links are displayed very conspicuously on the betting site. Some sites have the download links right on top of their home page, while others insert the link near the bottom of the page.
A lot of these sites also have a “Mobile App” option on their main menu. When you visit this section, you will be able to download their betting app on your android or iOS device.
Some sites also include download guides and instructions to help users get the app on their devices.
Because android phones are programmed to receive betting apps exclusively from the Google Play Store, apps from other platforms are treated as apps from unknown sources.
Hence, you have to manually enable your device to accept apps from your betting site in order to install the app on your android device.
Having said that, you need to be very careful with the type of betting app that you install on your mobile device.
When you get an app from a source other than the Google Play Store, there is always the risk of downloading an unsafe file on your phone. There is no third party to verify the quality and safety of the app.
This is why you should only use apps from trusted betting sites in Nigeria.
When you download apps from any of these sites, you can be sure that the app will not endanger the functionality and security of your device.
