Huawei Pocket 2 announced with four external cameras

Huawei unveiled its latest clamshell foldable, the Pocket 2, boasting significant enhancements across the board. Breaking new ground, this device features a waterdrop hinge for a seamless, zero-gap fold, marking a first for Huawei’s foldable lineup. Additionally, it claims the title of the world’s first flip foldable with four cameras adorning its cover.

Under the hood, the Pocket 2 sports a sizable 6.94” foldable LPTO OLED display, complemented by a 1.15” circular screen adjacent to the camera island in a distinctive dual-circle symmetric design. The primary display delivers Full HD+ resolution, while the circular screen boasts a resolution of 340 x 340 pixels.

Huawei’s chipset details remain undisclosed, but speculation suggests the Pocket 2 is powered by the Kirin 9000S. It offers ample memory configurations, with 12 GB of RAM and storage options ranging from 256 GB to a whopping 1 TB. Notably, there’s also a Pocket 2 Art variant featuring an extravagant design, 16 GB of RAM, and 1 TB of storage.

Camera-wise, the Pocket 2 packs a punch with a 50 MP main shooter boasting OIS and an f/1.6 aperture. Accompanying it are an ultra-wide-angle camera with a 12 MP sensor and an f/2.2 aperture, along with a 3x telephoto lens featuring an 8 MP imager and OIS. Notably, the fourth unit is a unique 2 MP UV sensor capable of detecting UV intensity and sunspots.

In a nod to versatility, the Pocket 2 supports two-way satellite messaging via China’s Beidou satellite navigation system. Powering all these features is a robust 4,520 mAh battery, a first for Huawei’s flip foldables, accompanied by 40W wireless charging and 66W wired charging.

Running on HarmonyOS 4, the Pocket 2 introduces a user-friendly UI, facilitating effortless customization of the cover screen for various purposes, including displaying clocks, wallpapers, GIFs, or avatars. Additionally, it serves as a notification hub and a secondary display for capturing selfies with the main camera.

The Pocket 2 made its debut on February 22 with an initial flash sale on Huawei’s online store, Vmall.com. It comes in four appealing colors – Tahitian Gray, Rococo White, Purple, and Black. For enthusiasts seeking a touch of sophistication, the Art version is available in Dream Blue, priced at NGN 2,310,000 (over $1,500). Alternatively, more budget-friendly options start at NGN 1,625,000 ($1,040) for 256 GB storage, NGN 1,760,000 ($1,110) for 512 GB, or NGN 1,816,000 ($1,180).
