Huawei saw a powerful marketing tactic while Apple fans waited overnight for the release of Apple’s new iPhone XS and XS Max.
While the Apple fans queued for the release of the iPhone XS and XS Max, they were greeted with a huge surprise from Huawei, the second largest smartphone manufacturer by sales in the world in Q2 2018. The Huawei agents came around in Huawei shirts and handed out free power banks to the multitude of people waiting to get the new phones from Apple. tech360 reported that these power banks were handed out to the Apple fans in front of the Apple Store along Orchard Road, Singapore at about 11 pm local time. The power banks came with a note that read “Here’s a power bank. You’ll need it. Courtesy of Huawei.” Each of the power banks retails at about $80.
In total, Huawei gave out about 200 power banks. In fact, Huawei shared a video which showed some of the people on the iPhone queue chasing the staff for a free power bank. While this may seem like a kind gesture, it is a slap on Apple’s face – a big troll on the new Apple phones. It is probably one of the biggest trolls in the smartphone world at the moment.
In comparison to Huawei’s flagship phone, the P20 Pro, which comes with a 4,000mAh battery, Apple’s iPhone XS comes with a mere 2,658mAh battery. So, the company is probably telling the Apple fans to prepare for battery issues on their new phones. Also, considering the fact that in the second quarter of 2018, Huawei overtook Apple as the smartphone brand with the second most sales, the giving out of power banks is a sort of message from Huawei to Apple.
We do not know yet if Apple will respond with a troll of its own. But right now, Huawei is definitely the troll winner. And of course, the Apple fans are happy.
