Huawei Y7 (2018) press renders leak, shows off an 18:9 screen, fingerprint sensor and more

Huawei was noticeably absent at the MWC, but over the weekend, launched a high-end smartphone – the Huawei Y9 (2018) – with the new 18:9 aspect ratio.

There had already been rumours in the mill about this unit getting a little brother for the midrange market and today, that might have just been confirmed in a mild leak.

Dubbed the Y7 (2018), the yet-to-be-announced unit looks so much like its bigger brother on the outside. On the inside though, there are a lot of differences – as is to be expected.

The press renders also point to a slightly smaller screen than that on the Y9 (2018). The good news is that this screen will also be made compatible with the 18:9 aspect ratio technology.

One of the major differences that these renders highlight is in the rear camera. While the high-end unit carries a dual camera setup on the back (and two extra sensors for selfies), its little sibling will make do with a 13MP rear camera.

That is a dial down, but we don’t expect the midrange user to suffer in terms of picture quality with this sensor. That camera sensor is kept company on the back by a fingerprint sensor.

Unfortunately, that is all the leak came with. Of course, this is not official yet and should be taken with a pinch of salt. However, since we are nearing the possible launch date of the lesser-packed Y7 (2018), there is a very good chance that this is the gospel.

We will keep our ears close to the ground for more juicy details on this unit and let you know as soon as something else comes up.
