LG’s rollable smartphone pictured in 3D renders

Renders of LG's rollable smartphone

Over the years, we have known LG Mobile to be innovative, and the company is not ready to stop. The company is yet to actually release a working foldable smartphone but recently teased a dual-screen phone.

Now, LG is apparently working on an even more advanced screen technology. This involves a rollable smartphone whose screen can actually bend in two directions.

The company filed a patent about the rollable smartphone earlier this month. According to the patent images, the smartphone has a screen that has two hinges and bends in multiple directions. This means that the display wraps around the body of the device.

Here are some 3D renders that are based on the design in the patents.

The concept of the rollable smartphone seems really cool. The fact that you can fold the screen inwards serves as a kind of protection from scratches. This sort of boosts the screen’s integrity.

The patent is now live on World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) and China National Intellectual Property Administration (CNIPA). However, it is still just a patent, and we do not know if LG will actually unveil such a device. Even if the company decides to do that, we have no idea how long it will take to become commercially available. So, all we can do right now is wait.
