OnePlus is becoming increasingly popular among lovers of Android devices. This success is mainly due to the features and specifications that the company ships with its phones. Already, this year, we have seen the OnePlus 6, and we are waiting for the OnePlus 6T which is set to debut on October 29. Even while waiting for the OnePlus 6T, we are already getting official news about next year’s releases from the company.
At a Qualcomm event where the company introduced its new Snapdragon 645 mid-range chipset, OnePlus co-founder Carl Pei was on stage and he dropped a hint about an upcoming phone from OnePlus.
Confirming that OnePlus has been experimenting with 5G technology, Pei disclosed that the company will be ready to introduce a phone that is ready for 5G connectivity by the end of 2019. Now, if OnePlus’ nomenclature of its phones is anything to go by, then we may see the company’s first 5G device in the OnePlus 7 or the OnePlus 7T, both of which are expected to launch next year.
If this happens, then OnePlus may actually be one of the first smartphone companies to market a device that is ready for 5G. However, it largely depends on what other smartphone companies do in the coming months and next year before OnePlus’ launch.
Apart from OnePlus, companies such as Samsung, Huawei, Honor, and LG have already confirmed plans to also make phones that are ready for 5G.
However, even though these companies claim to be in the process of making 5G-ready phones, 5G may not yet be available on mobile networks and carriers around the world by then. So, these devices may just be ready to support the network when it finally becomes available.
