It appears that the smartphone RAM war has taken a pause and camera war is now taking over. This is evident in the smartphone specs we have been seeing over the past couple of months.
We recently saw a number of devices with 48MP camera units. More recently, we gave information about a 64MP quad-camera smartphone technology from Realme. Redmi also recently teased a 64MP smartphone camera.
Now, Samsung is taking things up a notch with the launch of a 108MP sensor. The company’s camera division will launch this sensor on 12th August.
A popular leakster shared a slide from an internal presentation a couple of days ago. The leakster revealed that Xiaomi would be first to use this Samsung ISOCELL sensor in a smartphone.
If Xiaomi does not deviate from its usual Mix handset launch timeline, then we will get the Mi Mix 4 this year, at least in China. This is the device that is expected to be the first to use the 108MP sensor.
As it stands, even the classic megapixel wars may be over. Creating the biggest possible quad-bayer array appears to be the trend now. We do not have all the details about Samsung’s 108MP sensor size, but it is only a matter of hours before we do.
